It all started on our small family farm in the rolling hills of Kentucky with a couple of dogs, our son’s old rabbit that lived with us in 3 different states, a few good looking bantams, chickens...and then we decided to add quail. Quail seemed to be a great addition because of their small size and efficiency. They were plentiful egg layers after just 6 weeks. We did a ton of research and discovered that quail eggs are more nutritious than chicken eggs by weight, as they offer a slightly higher concentration of iron and B12. We quickly became obsessed with our new tiny feathered friends, and set out on a mission to do our best by them. However, it was immediately apparent that there was a lot of conflicting care advice and not a ton of quail specific products out there.
Since we had always focused on feeding our chickens the healthiest feed, supplements and treats we decided it shouldn’t be any different for our quail. Let’s face it, watching all of the scary information about commercial eggs flood the internet, egg shortages, and crazy egg prices, it provided a sense of relief that our efforts to be healthy and self sufficient haven’t been in vain. This ignited a fire within us to dig deeper and find out as much about quail as we possibly could. You may be doing the same which is what brought you to our website. The more we researched and read, the more we discovered how overwhelming it could be with all of the social media groups/boards with their keyboard warriors and self-proclaimed experts could be. It became very stressful and overwhelming trying to decipher who/what to believe. In the end, we discovered that the only way to truly know what works is to put in the work ourselves…because at the end of the day, who is really an expert anyway?
We decided that the best course of action was to step away from the internet and begin to meticulously monitor the behavior and habits of our birds. We quickly saw how our birds began to thrive with the proper, chemical free nutrition and supplements. In fact, we quickly wound up with so many quail eggs that we didn’t know what do, LOL. Aside from wanting an abundant supply of eggs, we wanted healthy eggs for our family.
At the end of the day, we simply want to live a happy, healthy life and want our birds to do the same. We feel that it was our duty to share our knowledge and experiences with others. We know that not everyone has a farm or grew up on one, and you don't even need one to enjoy a small backyard flock of your own choice of fowl. We believe that everyone is entitled to be self-sufficient when it comes to the things that they put into their bodies even if they’re limited on space. Therefore, we decided that we wanted to focus on urban birds, homesteads, micro-farms and bird lovers everywhere who demand the best for their flocks and their own health. We understand that feeding your fowl the safest feed and treats is expensive, but un-healthy birds produce unhealthy eggs, and unhealthy eggs are not what we wanted for our family table or yours…as the saying goes, “you are what you eat.”
There are so many companies offering products out there, we found that many products that are available online are not even from companies in our own country. It’s scary to think that these “companies” are selling supplements, treats and feed from who knows where with who knows what in them. Everyone seems to be offering "natural" and we discovered that this word really means nothing. Don't be fooled, "natural" is not organic, nor does it mean the product is even safe.
